Hidden gems find a new home

Many changes have been made in preparation for the refurbishment of the Library at Newham University Hospital. The computers within the Library have been removed but users will continue to have 24/7 access to the Knowledge Hub.

The Library stock has been weeded to create room for more study space and new library materials. In the process of clearing the office, some hidden gems were discovered dating as far back as 1893. Alas, limited space demands that we part with these gems but rest assured they have been found a good home with the Royal London Hospital Archives where they will be available to researchers.

Among them is a copy of A Complete System of Nursing by Millicent Ashdown published in 1925 as well as a copy of Queen Mary's Hospital Cookery Book from 1924. The collection also includes the 1970 Memorandum providing guidance on Library Services in Hospitals, the 1938-55 Tuberculosis statistics for England and Wales, the 1895 Maternity Charity and District Nurses' Home Annual Report and some hand written Matron's reports and Nurse's reports.
